How mobile developers can create polished app demo videos with CrazyCap.

A practical guide for iOS, Android, Flutter, and React Native developers recording app demos for social, landing pages, and app stores.

You do not need to become a video editor to make a clear app demo. Plan one useful flow, run it in a simulator or emulator on your Mac, and record a clean take. CrazyCap can add automatic polish to that Mac recording for social clips, landing pages, and developer updates. Store listing previews have their own capture and export rules, so check those before submitting.

01 · Plan the story

Show one useful flow from start to finish.

Choose one job your app helps someone complete. Start close to the first meaningful action, show the result, and finish once the benefit is clear. A short feature walkthrough is easier to follow than a tour of every screen. For an App Store preview, plan a concise story that stays inside the app; for social or a landing page, you can add a brief opener or closing frame if it helps explain the clip.

02 · Prepare the build

Run the app in a simulator or emulator on your Mac.

CrazyCap records your Mac screen or a window, so a practical mobile development setup is to launch the app in iOS Simulator or Android Emulator and capture that window. The same workflow works for a Flutter or React Native app running in those environments. Reset the app to a known state, use demo data, close unrelated windows, and turn off notifications before you record. That keeps the viewer focused on your app and avoids exposing real user details.

03 · Record and polish

Capture once, then make only the edits you need.

Select the simulator or emulator window, then record the flow at a steady pace. CrazyCap automatically adds zooms around clicks, smooths cursor movement, and frames the recording. In Studio, adjust a zoom or trim the start and end if the take needs it, then export a 1080p MP4. That works well for a polished marketing clip or feature walkthrough without arranging every movement on a timeline. CrazyCap is for Mac recordings; it does not directly capture a separate physical iPhone or Android device.

04 · Make channel versions

Reframe the important action for each destination.

A wide landing page clip, a vertical social post, and a square feed video have different framing needs. Keep the key control near the center of the action and create a separate 16:9, 9:16, or 1:1 export instead of stretching one crop everywhere. If you add on-screen text, keep it short and large enough to read on a phone. Add captions or a short voiceover when the interaction needs explanation, but make sure the demo still makes sense with sound off.

05 · App Store previews

Treat an App Store preview as a separate deliverable.

Apple currently requires App Store previews to run 15 to 30 seconds and provides accepted resolutions by device size. Its guidance says previews should show footage captured from the app on a device, stay within the app, and recommends capturing at native UI resolution rather than zooming in. CrazyCap’s standard 1080p MP4 export is useful for marketing, but is not guaranteed to match every App Store device slot or review expectation. Check the current specifications and validate the exact file before submitting; use device capture and a finishing editor when the preview needs a native-resolution export.

06 · Google Play previews

Upload a YouTube video for a Google Play listing.

Google Play uses a YouTube URL for an app listing preview video, so export a clean version, upload it to YouTube, and paste the video URL into Play Console. The video must be public or unlisted, embeddable, and have monetization disabled to appear on Google Play. Since the first 30 seconds may autoplay with the sound muted, show the app’s core experience early and make any text readable without narration. Recheck Google’s current listing guidance before publishing.

07 · A repeatable workflow

Keep a small demo setup ready for the next release.

Save a reliable simulator or emulator state, prepare a safe demo account, and keep a short outline of the flow you want to show. After a release, update only the steps affected by the change and record a new take. Use CrazyCap for quick Mac-based marketing and documentation videos; use a device-specific capture and check the official upload requirements when you are preparing a store preview. Store rules and accepted formats can change, so these details were checked in September 2026.
